The 5-day Induction for Union Learning Reps Course

This is the first part of a comprehensive training and development package for ULRs. The course meets the requirements of the Employment Act 2002 which says that new ULRs should attend suitable training within 6 months of their appointment. The course will help new and established ULRs to become more familiar with their legal rights, communication with both members, non-members, management and local training providers in order that they can advise people on training and education opportunities both inside and outside of their workplace.

The 3-day Skills for Life Awareness Course

This course will enable experienced ULRs to Understand Skills for Life and their importance to members. The activities will help them understanding how they can advise members on Skills for Life issues and identify strategic ways of working with employers and providers to improve skills for life in the workplace.

During the course ULRs will have to opportunity to practice using some of the paper-based and electronic testing that is available so that they feel more confident when advising learners to improve on their own Maths, English and Communication skills.

The Climbing Frame

The Climbing Frame is an electronic tool to help learners and promote learning in the workplace. It is an easy-to-use electronic tool which allows learning reps to create pathways of learning and action plans for individuals that can be reviewed and updated as they progress on their learning journey.

In addition, ULRs can keep ongoing records of who they’re working with and where they’re heading, while unions can generate accurate profiles of their own learners. It is set to make life a lot easier for ULRs and is certain to help promote the idea of learning in the workplace.

The 5-day Computer Skills for Reps Courses

The team at Nottingham Trade Union Education realise that reps are going to have to keep improving their own skills in order to be able to advise others. That’s why we run a 5-day Computer Skills for Reps course which aims to help reps who are both beginners to using a computer, or self taught and unsure of the right way to do things quickly and efficiently. ULRs in particular will benefit from learning how to create posters to advertise courses and forms that they can use to attract the interest of their learners and also track their progress. The activities covers a wide range of topics and reps are instrumental in designing the course around their own needs
