All Students in College have access to a range of support with careers queries. Queries may include support with HE applications, writing CVs or guidance on career choices. Careers information is available in the two Careers Libraries at West Bridgford and Charnwood. A range of careers software packages is available on the Academic network. Any student seeking careers advice may make an appointment to see a professionally trained Careers Adviser in the Student Centre. The College also arranges for the Connexions Service to be available in College.
The College offers an Initial Guidance service to potential students through its Guidance Team. Each School has a Guidance and Support Tutor, who students can contact during their time at college. Guidance and Support Tutors will be involved in delivering the entitlement tutorial programme to all full-time students aged 16-18. They may also contact students about their attendance if there is an issue and help students to sort out any difficulties with this.
For students in the 13 to 19 age-range, we have a Connexions Personal Adviser in College who can offer confidential advice, guidance and support to students. The role of the Personal Adviser is to help students with any issue that may be a barrier to their learning – not just within the College environment but also issues relating to home. For example, students may be struggling at College as a result of pregnancy, relationships, substance misuse, finance, bullying, peer pressure, self-esteem or exam pressures.
The support is mainly on a one-to-one basis and can include:
Students are welcome to contact the Personal Adviser for a chat or to make an appointment on 0115 9146371.
