Testimonials

“Fully flexible. Sometimes the training is done in house, at other times we send the staff to SNC Training at Ruddington. Sometimes there are workshops for 12 to 15 staff, at other times it might be only 2 or 3 staff. It has worked really well”. Jane Thacker, Manager, Field House Nursing Home.

NHS Lincolnshire nominated SNC Training as their provider of choice to address identified workforce development needs of literacy and numeracy. SNC Training adopted a collaborative approach, working with the NHS and Union Learning Representatives to promote Skills for Life classes.

SNC Training held “Test events” at two NHS Lincolnshire sites. These events were promoted widely by the NHS and Unions and they offered staff the opportunity to try initial assessments, investigate their learning style and find out more about workplace learning. This resulted in an exceptional conversion rate with over 80% of those who took an initial assessment enrolling on Skills for Life courses. The events continued to raise the profile of Skills for Life within the organisation in addition to widening access to learning for staff who do not traditionally engage.

A Skills for Life course is just the beginning of a much larger programme of study with many further opportunities for the learners. The skills learned at the literacy and numeracy courses are designed to prepare the learners for further learning as well as helping them in their current job role.

“I feel really positive about the Skills for life events. I feel it has provided us with an opportunity to boost the skills of the learners.” Chris Donkin, DokinITEX

“We began our partnership journey with SNC Training approximately two years ago when they offered us the opportunity to reap the advantage of them being a Train to Gain Accredited Centre. For us it has been very successful; the staff at SNC Training are knowledgeable and respond quickly and efficiently to our many queries regarding funding issues. The partnership has gone from strength to strength and earlier this year SNC Training started to support us with our Skills for Life programme which in turn supports the NHS Skills Pledge.

This has been very successful; the tutor has received very good feedback from those on the programme and meets learning needs specific to each individual. Working within Lincolnshire is always a challenge, the county is wide and many of the work areas are remote, however, SNC Training has been able to provide support and guidance showing equal opportunities to all interested parties. We look forward to continuing the partnership and would like to offer out thanks, especially to Kerstie Stevens (course tutor) for all her expertise in this area.” Lynne Marriott, NVQ Centre Manager, Lincolnshire Learning Academy, NHS Lincolnshire
