The courses aim to equip learners with the necessary skills that ensure they can easily fit into their desired choice of career in the sports industry or continue their education to a higher level. With a mix of both practical and academic units these courses aim to engage students in a variety of ways that best suits their individual learning needs.
The Department of Travel and Tourism has a state-of-the-art mock airline cabin, specialist IT facilities and modern classrooms with all facilities for which learners can study effectively on our programmes.
These courses are designed to prepare students for entry into a variety of public services such as the Police Service, Fire and Rescue Services, Ambulance and Paramedic Services, HMRC, the Armed Forces and Prison Service.

BTEC Diploma in Sport (Level 2)This is a course designed for students who are inspired/motivated by the sports industry and who want an academic and practical introductory programme to sport. This is an excellent course for individuals wanting to progress onto a higher level course in sport but have just missed out on gaining the grades for the Level 3 Extended Diploma or AS Levels. There are excellent opportunities within this course to develop a broad range of practical skills suitable for employment. You will also find opportunities to work at local, national and international sporting ev ents as a voluteer and pick up a whole range of coaching and leadership experience and awards. | |
BTEC Diploma in Travel and Tourism (Level 2)This is a vocational programme equivalent to 4 GCSE’s at A*-C grade. It is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a career in the travel or tourism industries or the qualifications to gain a place on an Advanced level course. | |

These are 2 year full time courses designed for students who are motivated to gain employment in the sports industry or are aspiring to become an elite athlete. They combine academic and practical study in a broad spectrum of disciplines in Sport that will help learners achieve their goals. These are excellent courses for individuals wanting to progress onto university to study sport or alternatively pursue a career in Sports Performance, Coaching or Development. There are excellent opportunities within these courses to gain experience in a range of roles at local, national and international sporting events as an athlete, volunteer and to pick up a whole range of additional relevant coaching awards that will enable you to gain part-time employment opportunities whilst still studying. BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences (Level 3)If you are passionate about sport and exercise this could be the course for you. You will learn all about the body systems and how to get the best sporting performance from it. Throughout your course you will learn how to analyse your own performance and others around you. BTEC Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services (Level 3)An assignment based course for students interested in the uniformed services. The course involves a broad range of study and assessment and is varied in its approach and may include outdoor activities. There are approximately 18 units to the programme, and students study 9 units each year. The majority of lessons (70%) are classroom based and require a high degree of self-discipline. The extended diploma is equivalent to three full A levels which is an excellent platform should students which to aspire to gain a commission in any of the Public Services. | |
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A levels) or Diploma in Travel and Tourism (equivalent to 2 A Levels)These courses have been developed to meet the needs of the travel and tourism industry with a focus on independent learning, practical knowledge and skills. Residentials are an integral part of the course and are currently held in the UK in the first year and an approximate 2 week trip to The Gambia in the second year. One of the additional qualifications studied; Global Citizenship, has been developed by the South Nottingham College Travel & Tourism team in conjunction with City and Guilds as it is deemed as an innovative project to raise awareness of global issues. It will give students the confidence and underpinning knowledge that they will need when campaigning and taking action against some of the issues that are raised. It will also increase students chances of gaining employment in the globalised Travel & Tourism industry. | |
BTEC National Diploma in Sport and BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Creative Media Production (Level 3)This is a 2 year full time course designed for students who are aspiring to work in the Sports and/or Media Industry. It will certainly give an insight into the structure of both the sport and print based / online media industries and provide opportunities for progression to study Sport &/or Media in Higher Education. The programme is equivalent to 3 A levels and will provide an excellent opportunity to develop communication skills and knowledge. The course will enable learners to meet and work alongside local media outlets to gain that invaluable industrial experience. There will also be excellent opportunities within this course to work alongside College based projects such as Balls to Poverty and ITTOG and see how they function at local, national and international level with a range of media. As with other courses within the School opportunities to work as a volunteer and pick up a whole range of relevant coaching and leadership awards that will enable you to gain part-time employment opportunities whilst still studying may be offered. City & Guilds Diploma in Increasing Participation in Sport and Active Leisure in a Community Setting (Linked to Balls to Poverty) (Level 3)A two-year course that offers a mixture of practical and academic sessions that will provide the skills and knowledge required assisting those wanting a career in Sports Development. There are excellent opportunities within this programme to fund raise, coach and teach at local, national and international level, through the internationally recognised Balls to Poverty Programme. There is also an opportunity to use these skills during an overseas visit within the townships of South Africa with opportunities that include Township coaching sessinos, Coach Education programme for Township coahces, community sports activities, manual projects (painting schools etc) along with cultural tours. The skills obtained in South Africa/Uganda can then be used in communities back in the United Kingdom. The course will include leadership, personal development to become a role model to others. | |

City & Guilds NVQ Sport and Recreation Activity Leadership (Level 2)This is a course for students who would like to work in community sport as an activity leader. It covers leadership in a whole range of sports covering the technical, tactical, physical aspects and learning styles. This course is excellent for individuals who are more hands on and have an interest in working with and developing the sport and physical skills of young people. Leadership in schools and voluntary clubs makes up a significant part of the programme to gain the practical experience required to complete the qualification. City & Guilds Resort Representatives Certificate and BTEC Preparation for Flight Attendants (Level 2)The City and Guilds Resort Representatives course and the Certificate in Air Cabin Crew have been designed to provide opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in the specific areas of industry. We have combined the two courses to create this one-year stimulating and innovative programme. It is assignment assessed and these will be in different formats including reports, task sheets, role-plays, videos and practicals. | |
