A Foundation Programme is the first step towards many vocational qualifications or alternatively can lead to further training or employment.

Students will improve their personal and study skills, gain credit for them and achieve nationally recognised qualifications such as BTEC or OCR. Provision is offered in small groups and workshops are available for extra support.

Students mainly study at Entry level have a choice of courses to meet their needs. Students will have the opportunity to progress onto other courses and classroom support is offered if required.

Student Support

Student support is provided for students who have specific learning difficulties, hearing impairment, visual impairment and physical disabilities. Specialist lecturers, classroom assistants, speech therapists, small classes and transport for those under 19 (in special circumstances only) are all available.

Certificate in Retail Knowledge (Level 1)

Foundation Learning programmes prepare and support young people ready for mainstream education at level 2 or employment. The heart of the course aims at ensuring each learner receives the support and guidance needed to help them achieve their potential.

Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance (Level 1)

Foundation Learning programmes prepare and support young people ready for mainstream education at level 2 or employment. The heart of the course aims at ensuring each learner receives the support and guidance needed to help them achieve their potential.

Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance (Level 1)

The Motor Vehicle course offers a progression route for Foundation students onto the Level One Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance.

Entry 1

The programme offers a broad curriculum and individually set personal targets negotiated with a personal tutor. Students work in a small group with support as required.

Entry 2

Students will gain confidence and independence skills. The course will allow students to work in small groups to achieve a range of Foundation Learning units in Personal Development and Independent Living skills.

Entry 3

The course aims to work on personal development skills as well as introduce a range of vocational tasters such as Travel and Tourism, Childcare, Business and Sport. Also underpinned to the course is the development of skills in citizenship, community studies and relationships skills for a working life. Students may also have the opportunity to take part in a residential and to do work experience. In addition learners study Functional Skills in ICT, English and Maths. Each student will have a personal tutor and weekly tutorials.

Foundation Studies (Level 1)

This course is for students with Higher Functioning Autism/Aspergers Syndrome who are ready to move on to a Level 1 course. It has been designed to aid the transition between school and college and to help students adjust to the changes involved. We work particularly on developing communication and social skills, with strategies to enable progress in education and personal development. There is a strong element of tutorial support underpinning the course.

GCSE Pathways Business and ICT

This is a re-sit course with the aim of building on GCSE results already achieved and to work towards full level 2 status (5 grade Cs or above). Students can study on two different pathways.

Get Into Care: Health and Social Care and Entry Level in Caring for Children (Level 1)

‘Get into’ programmes are for young people who could benefit from the chance to develop vocational, personal and Functional Skills in a challenging and supportive environment. The Get into Care programme gives you an opportunity to achieve the BTEC Entry 3 Awards in Health & Social Care & Child Care. You will also study Functional Skills English, Maths and IT .

Get Into Construction (Entry 3)

For young persons aged 16-18. In addition to the vocational content you will also follow a varied programme that includes qualifications in Functional Skills English, Maths, IT.

Get into Motor Vehicle (Level 1)

‘Get into’ (E4E) programmes are for young people who could benefit from the chance to develop vocational, personal and Functional Skills in a challenging and supportive environment.

Health and Social Care (Level 1)

Foundation Learning programmes prepare and support young people ready for mainstream education at level 2 or employment. The Health and Social Care course offers learners interested in caring for people the opportunity to explore a broad range of caring professions to help them develop their own career path, skills and qualities. The heart of the course aims at ensuring each learner receives the support and guidance needed to help them achieve their potential.

Integr8 (ESOL Skills for Life) (Entry 3/Level 1)

The course is designed for young refugees and asylum seekers with language needs. Additional support in the form of pastoral care and advocacy is included.

Introduction to Hair and Beauty (Level 1)

Foundation Learning programmes prepare and support young people ready for mainstream education at level 2 or employment. The heart of the course aims at ensuring each learner receives the support and guidance needed to help them achieve their potential.

Lifeskills Certificate/Diploma in Personal Progress (Pre-Entry)

The Lifeskills course is suitable for pre-entry level learners (milestones 5 to 8) with learning difficulties and / or disabilities to prepare for life and living. The programme provides a variety of exciting developmental learning opportunities for young people and adults across the county and city of Nottingham. Specialist staff provide a conducive and effective learning environment where learning support packages can be tailored to suit individual learning styles and needs. Students study all elements of foundation learning at the most appropriate level where personal and social development and functional skills are embedded and practiced in a variety of contexts. Students get the opportunity to experience and participate in enrichment and educational activities to support their personal and academic development.

Pathway to Employment (Entry 3/Level 1)

These are exciting courses aimed at developing students’ skills and applying them to the world of work. We are currently offering a wide range of vocational subjects that can be combined in a number of ways.

Pathway to Specialised Industry (Level 1)

This course involves in depth learning in different aspects of their chosen industry. The course is suitable for anybody who wishes to specialise in a chosen vocation for a future career in that industry.

Pathway to Vocational Studies (Level 1)

The course involves tasters in the different aspects of industry. The course is suitable for anybody who is uncertain of their preferred vocation but is interested in a future career in industry or progression onto a specialist vocational area.

Pathways to Employment: Vocational Studies (Entry 3/Level 1)

P2E programmes prepare and support young people ready for mainstream education at level 1 or employment. The course is available to all young people. Especially towards those who have not achieved their full potential at school but would like to move into employment with training, apprenticeships, employment and learning at level 1 or 2.

Pathways to Progression Vocational Studies (Entry)

Pathways is for learners who need to improve their skills before progressing onto Level 1 courses within college or into training and employment opportunities.

Pathways to Progression: Vocational Studies (Entry 3)

Pathways is for young learners who need to improve their skills before progressing onto Level 1 courses within college or into training and employment opportunities. It is designed to support you in addressing any confidence, low self esteem, social or emotional difficulties you may be having and improve study skills. The course offers small group sizes with a high staff to student ratio, to accelerate your learning.

Pathways to Progression: Vocational Studies (Level 1)

The Pathways BTEC Certificate Vocational Studies at Level 1 course is aimed at young people who may not have fulfilled their potential within a school environment and who wish to improve their skills in order to progress and succeed.

Sensory Skills Award Scheme (Pre Entry)

The Sensory Skills course is suitable for pre-entry level learners (milestones 1 to 4) with learning difficulties and / or disabilities to prepare for life and living. Students learn the basic skills of interaction and communication such as making choices, using language, signs and symbols. Classes are kept small and taught in a mixture of traditional classroom and multi-sensory environments by trained specialist tutors.

Sport and Active Leisure (Level 1)

Foundation Learning programmes prepare and support young people ready for mainstream education at level 2 or employment. The heart of the course aims at ensuring each learner receives the support and guidance needed to help them achieve their potential.

Workskills Certificate in Life and Living Skills (Entry 1)

The Workskills course is suitable for entry level learners with learning difficulties and / or disabilities, and who are ready for preparing for work and life.

Workskills Certificate: Personal and Social Development (Level 1)
