Business

Our Business courses are work related qualifications for young people interested in careers across a broad range of business areas such as clerical, administrative, retail and accounts. Information Technology is used extensively and practical tasks are carried out in realistic work situations.

IT

Our range of courses will provide you with the business and technical skills to enable you to progress into employment as a PC Maintenance Technician, Network Support Technician or Network Manager, Application Developer, Web Developer, Office Administration Manager or Programmer.

AAT Certificate in Accounting (Level 2) with BTEC Certificate in Business (Level 2)

This course incorporates a number of highly recognised qualifications to help you gain the skills required for a future career in business or accounting.

Apprenticeship in Information and Communications Technology (Level 2)

Apprenticeships provide the perfect way for young people to earn while you learn, achieving great qualifications and training while acquiring priceless work experience in the sector. An Apprenticeship will give you the ability to work at a high standard. Getting paid while you learn might sound too good to be true — but as an apprentice you really do get the best of both worlds. If you have the dedication to succeed in the world of work, and you’re not afraid to commit yourself to between one and two years of training and study, then an Apprenticeship is for you.

BTEC Diploma for IT Users (ITQ) (Level 1)

This qualification will give learners the opportunities to widen their knowledge and to develop a range of skills, techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life or progression onto a higher level of qualification here at the college.

BTEC Diploma in Business (Level 2)

This is a full-time practical, work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

BTEC Diploma in IT (Level 2)

A BTEC Level 2 Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities. The lessons provide a good starting point to go on to a more advanced academic / career route to higher education, or into the work place.

BTEC Diploma in IT (Networking and System Support) (Level 3) (equivalent to 2 A Levels)

This is a course aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in IT, with an emphasis on networking and system support. The course provides content and structures that will help students to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to work as professionals in the IT sector or to progress in to Higher Education / University. This course is equivalent to 2 A levels.

BTEC Diploma/Extended Diploma in Business (Level 3)

What is the difference between a Level 3 Diploma and a Level 3 Extended Diploma? An Extended Diploma is the equivalent of three A Levels and the Diploma, two. Your predicted GCSE grades or achieved grades will effect whether you are offered a place on the Extended Diploma or the Diploma.

BTEC Extended Diploma in Business and IT (Level 3)

This course combines the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business with the BTEC Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma in IT, giving an overall qualification worth the equivalent of three A-Levels. It is a full-time practical, work-related course. By completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands, you will learn about the business world and the basics of how IT can be used within a business context. There are approximately 18 units; students study half of the units each year.

BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (Level 3) (equivalent to 3 A Levels)

The course provides content and structures that will help students to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to work as professionals in the IT sector or to progress in to Higher Education / University.

BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (Software Development) (Level 3) (equivalent to 3 A levels)

A two-year Level 3 course aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in software development or web design.

City & Guilds Diploma in ICT Systems Support (Level 2)

This course is for those who wish to pursue a career in the field of computer technical support. It will help you to understand the role of technical support in the workplace and help you develop the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to undertake this role.

City & Guilds IT Systems and Principles for IT Professionals (Level 3)

This is an advanced course for those seeking an advanced knowledge of IT support and networking.

HND in Computing

The course is delivered in association with De Montfort University, Leicester and applicants should apply through UCAS. This full-time course offers the opportunity to develop a wide range of highly relevant subject skills necessary for employment within the IT sector. This programme is aimed at students wanting to pursue a professional career in the technical side of computing. The course provides a broad base, covering many diverse aspects of computing, including programming, analysis, design, computer architecture, networking, business communication and database design. Additionally, achievement of the HND qualification may provide an opportunity to progress to a full-time BSc (Honours) Computer Science course at De Montfort University.

IT Professionals Higher Professional Diploma (HPD)

This is an advanced higher professional diploma in ICT systems support. The programme is designed to enable candidates to gain employment in the computer industry at technical support manager level.

OCR Diploma in Administration (Business Professional) Level 1

This qualification is aimed at learners who are seeking a career in office administration, or for more mature learners who are returning to work and wishing to update their skills.

OCR Diploma in Administration (Business Professional) Level 2

The course comprises of a variety of qualifications which are relevant for use in the modern office environment and is delivered over 3/4 days a week (15 hours). The course is suitable for learners with little prior knowledge of IT wishing to continue/update their skills or to commence/return to work.

OCR Diploma in IT User Skills (Level 1)

This is a work related learning qualification that provides learners with a taste of a vocational area, without restricting their future options. This course enables learners to develop valuable skills and knowledge.

Teaching English (ESOL) in the Lifelong Learning Sector (City and Guilds 7305-13 Level 5 Diploma DTLLS Yr 1)

This qualification is nationally recognised for teachers in Further Education and leads to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS). It works to the LLUK standards and requires a 'scholarly' approach to learning. Teachers with the Diploma (Complex ESOL) are qualified to plan and deliver courses and devise their own lesson plans and to manage other teachers in their area.

Teaching English (ESOL) in the Lifelong Learning Sector (City and Guilds 7305-13 Level 5 Diploma in YR2)

The Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (English, ESOL) is for literacy, ESOL subject specialist teachers, and is aimed at candidates who: • are deemed to be in a Full Teacher role or • would like or require a full level 5 qualification allowing them to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector as a subject specialist teacher or • are seeking career progression within their area of work and • have access to a minimum 150 teaching practice hours (whether pre -service or in -service) • teach on both a one-to-one and group basis for a variety of learners.
