The Institute of the Motor Industry National Diploma covers the technical needs for today's motor vehicle repair industry, including the diagnosis of complex system faults and advanced systems operations. It provides the essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.
5 GCSEs at grades A*-C, a level 2 Motor Vehicle qualification or other equivalent qualifications. Qualifications must include English Language and Maths achievement at Level 2.
Learners are assessed by IMI Awards set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, IMI Awards set 'on-line' multiple-choice testing and by assessments set by the College
The course requires to purchase a range of personal protective and safety equipment, costs will be given at interview. During the course there will also be a number of visits and trips that will require learners to contribute towards.
Progression can be made onto the IMI Level 4 Diploma for Automotive Master Technicians or other similar Level 4 qualifications. The course is an integral part of the ASL Apprenticeship and therefore provides a route into an ASL Apprenticeship. It can also help you to progress to employment, other work based training in the motor vehicle industry or higher level study at University.
