Course Outline

Apprenticeships provide work-based training for people who want to learn new skills and gain qualifications. The Apprenticeship in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair includes an NVQ; a Technical Certificate and Key Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT. The course covers the technical needs for today's motor vehicle repair industry, including the diagnosis of non-complex system faults. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.

Subjects/Modules


Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grades A*-D, a level 1 Motor Vehicle qualification or other equivalent qualifications. Qualifications must include English Language and/or Maths achievement at Level 1. You will need to be employed carrying out appropriate tasks.

Assessment

There will be a continuous assessment process throughout the course through practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, 'on-line' multiple-choice testing and by assessments set by the College. You will also need to build up a portfolio of evidence of your work.

Essential Information

The course requires to purchase a range of personal protective and safety equipment, costs will be given at interview. During the course there will also be a number of visits and trips that will require learners to contribute towards.

Further Study

Progression can be made onto the Advanced Apprenticeship in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or other similar Level 3 qualifications. The course will also help you to progress within the motor vehicle industry.
