Course Information:
Apprenticeships provide work-based training for people who want to learn new skills and gain qualifications. The Apprenticeship in Vehicle Body and Paint Operations includes an NVQ; a Technical Certificate and Key Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT. The course covers the technical and practical needs for today's motor vehicle repair industry, including motor vehicle repair and spraying. It provides essential knowledge for technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in body and paint operation.
Entry Requirements:
4 GCSEs at grades A*-D or a Level 1 Motor Vehicle qualification or other equivalent qualifications. Qualifications must include GCSE English Language and/or GCSE Maths achievement at Grade D. GCSE English and Maths may be substituted with Key/or Functional Skills at level 1. You will need to be employed carrying out appropriate tasks.
Course Content:
Remove and fit-non-welded, non structural vehicle body parts. Repair non-structural body panels. Remove and replace vehicle non-structual body panels. Prepare vehicle panels to accept foundation and topcoats. Workplace housekeeping. Health and Safety. Key Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT.
Assessment:
There will be a continuous assessment process throughout the course through practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, ‘on-line’ multiple-choice testing and by assessments set by the College. You will also need to build up a portfolio of evidence of your work.
Progression:
Career Opportunities: Motor Vehicle Body Repairer; Motor Vehicle Body Refinisher, Motor Vehicle Body Builder; Motor Vehicle Paint Sprayer. Further Study: Progression can be made onto the Advanced Apprenticeship in Vehicle Body and Paint Operations or other similar Level 3 qualifications. The programme will also help you to progress within the motor vehicle industry.
Additional Information:
The course requires learners to purchase a range of personal protective and safety equipment, costs will be given at interview. During the course there will also be a number of visits and trips that will require learners to contribute towards.
