Founded in 1907, Beeston Hockey Club was formed by a number of Nottingham High School Old Boys who lived in Beeston, a suburb of Nottingham.
The Club ran 2 teams regularly from 1913 to 1957, 3 teams from 1957-1966, 4 teams from 1966-1971 and then 5, 6 and 7 teams until they now field 8 men's teams and 3 ladies teams, the ladies section having been formed in 2002.
Many players have gained representative honours - England internationals Billy West in 1913/14 and Edgar Milward in 1933-35 (both goalkeepers) and J MacMinn played for Scotland. In 2006 Alistair Wilson representated England in the World Cup and David Griffiths, Ollie Cooper, Zak Jones and Matt Simkin all represented Wales.
Stephen Leeming, Danny Williams, Keith Reesby, Stephen Wood, Matt Taylor, Andrew West, Scott Cordon, Richard Stamp, Chriss Seddon, Stephen Lawrence, Tim Whiteman and Adam Dixon played at England u-21 level and David Griffiths was named National League Player of the Year in 2003 and 2006. Pakistan Olympic legend, Mohammed Nadeem joined the Bees in 2005.
As the Centenary year approached the Club regained their Premier League status with a remarkable comeback to defeat Old Loughtonians in the play-offs in June 2006.
The squad for season 2007/08 now includes 20 players who have played international hockey at various levels; a truly remarkable achievement.
After growing up in the Northampton area Peter's first club was Northampton Town (now Lions). Whilst playing at Northampton, Peter was selected for county, regional and then England junior International teams. This naturally led to progression to a bigger club and aged 17, Peter started training with Beeston in Nottingham and has been a regular fixture in the first team squad for over 7 years. To continue playing hockey Peter moved to Nottingham where he attended Nottingham Trent University, playing and captaining an dhe also started coaching. Further representation at higher levels continued when Peter captained the English Universities side for two years winning both ournaments and also played for British Universities during this time.
Peter, who has his Level 1 coaching qualification and is working towards Level 2, has coached University sides and has also been heavily involved with the coaching of Beeston Colts over the years. Where possible Peter makes an annual pilgrimage back to Northampton where he coaches on their summer camps, where it all started.
