British Colleges Sport

“We encourage and enable students and colleges to develop their potential by providing sporting opportunities and services.”

Introduction

British Colleges Sport (BCS) was formed in 1978 as the British Association for Sport in Colleges (BASIC). The name was changed to British Colleges Sport in 1996. BCS exists to encourage and enable students (aged 16-19) and colleges within the further education sector to develop their potential by providing high quality sporting opportunities and services. BCS has a robust competition programme at a local, regional and national level in more than 15 different sports.

BSC runs national representative squads and teams in many sports and take part in international events and competitions. Many of our former competitors have gone on to play full national representative sport – but we also cater for those who simply want to take part and enjoy some activity.

Over 270 colleges across England, Scotland and Wales are affiliated to BCS, under a regional structure, making us the leading body for sport and active recreation in the country for students aged between 16 and 19 years.

National Championships

The National Championships take place once a year in April and are one of biggest annual multi-sport events in the UK. Each year more than 2500 students and staff from all over the UK meet up for sporting competition in 15 different sports. The introduction of teams from Scotland and a football tournament for students with learning difficulties have added to the event which reaches across all areas of college life.

To qualify for the National Championships and a chance to represent not only SNC but the East Midlands Region, you must first enter and win the East Midlands Individual Competitions.

National Teams

Players are selected from a structured trial system that starts initially with phase one regional trials in October, progressing through to a phase two competition in November and through to a phase three national team selection camp in December where squads are finalised.
